Psychotherapy

Feeling stuck?
We often create a kind of "armor" to protect ourselves from pain and disappointment. Yet, this protection also inhibits us from experiencing contentment, spontaneity and intimacy.

How do we get stuck?
From early childhood, the natural rhythms and desires of our bodies get tampered with. A growing separation occurs between our mind and body. Our authentic Self gets buried under layers of pressure and conformity. You "should do this", you "should not do that" and finally cemented by punishment and reward. We forget who we truly are...

Ready to open up?
Awareness is your courageous first step. Notice where your actions and self talk stop you from expanding into the world. Are there unresolved conflict with your partner, family, friends or work colleagues? If you want to change, I can help...

Individual Therapy

Do you tend to:
  • Control everything and everyone
  • Dominate or retreat
  • Intellectualize and be emotionally unavailable
  • Explode violently or stone wall when in conflict
  • Acquiesce - be overly shy or polite
  • Freeze up in social settings
  • Cling and/or distance yourself from intimate partners
  • Constantly seek approval from others
  • Sulk/get silent
  • Procrastinate
Benefits of therapy:
  • Alleviation of symptoms of anxiety, stress, panic
  • Better sleep
  • Increased intimacy and connection with self and others
  • Deeper meditation
  • Improved sexual functioning
  • Improved ability to self-regulate emotional states
  • More energy available for creative pursuits
  • Muscles soften and movements become more fluid
  • The internal critic quietens

Couples Therapy

Why does the "honeymoon" often end?
Understanding one's own character and embedded attachment style is crucial.
Partners can then transform their relationship from a source of pain or banality to a sustained source of joy.

I can help couples who are struggling with trust issues and/or infidelity. Deliberating if you should stay together? Or you want to separate as cleanly as possible? Couple's therapy can help you get more clear and anchored in the decisions that feel right for both of you.
Through couples therapy you can:
  • Improve communication and intimate connection
  • Break repetitive and distressing cycles of interaction
  • Resolve attachment issues
  • Expand your capacity to regulate emotional/arousal states
  • Strengthen the "muscle" of attention
  • Learn to read facial cues and body language
  • Build empathic attunement

Reichian Psychotherapy

My primary orientation is the Reichian method of psychotherapy, also known as "Orgonomy." This robust therapy is an incredibly powerful, holistic approach to healing both the mind and body.  The principles and techniques come from Wilhelm Reich MD, the father of Somatic Therapy.

About Wilhelm Reich

Picture
  • Born in 1897 in Austria
  • Received his medical degree in Vienna by the age of 22.
  • Became a disciple of Freud. Later pioneered combining psychoanalysis with bodywork and considered the father of somatic psychotherapy.
  • In 1927 wrote the acclaimed book: "The Function of the Orgasm".
  • Coined the term "character armor". Repetitive patterns of behaviour, speech and body posture that serves as a defence mechanism against hostile environments.
  • Coined the term "body armor". Contracted and rigid muscles that contained historical trauma. Once dissolved would bring back repressed memories of that trauma.
  •  Moved to New York, USA in 1939.
  • Developed the Orgone Accumulator which he claimed to help many ailments including cancer.

Call me and let's see how we can work together.
